Innovative End-of Queue Warning System Reduces Crashes Up to 45%
Abstract:This fact sheet details the application of an innovative end-of-queue warning system developed by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute to reduce the risk of crashes on a project to widen 96 miles of Interstate 35 (I-35) through central Texas. The system consists of a portable work zone queue detection and warning system combined with portable rumble strips. A preliminary evaluation of effectiveness found the system reduced crashes up to 45% and saved between $1.4 million and $1.8 million in society crash costs.
