Life Near the Fast Lane Takes Toll on Maintenance Workers

Author/Presenter: Downs, Jere
Abstract:

From the Wednesday, March 11, 1998 issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer. On Monday, March 9, one man was killed and several others were injured when a tractor-trailer hit them on the Pennsylvania Turnpike where they were responding to an earlier accident. This article discusses how Monday’s accident is just another reminder of the danger faced by employees of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation who work next to fast-moving traffic. Several workers were asked for their opinion on the tragedy and how they deal with the danger.
