Many Drivers in Favor of Stricter Rules, Per Work Zone Safety Work Group survey
Author/Presenter: Collins, DavidAbstract:
The article discusses the meeting of Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller’s Work Zone Safety Work Group, which convened to address public feedback on improving highway work zone safety. Formed after a tragic crash on I-695 that claimed six construction workers’ lives, the group aims to implement measures such as automatic speed limit reductions in work zones. They have also considered raising fines for speeding violations and implementing speed cameras. Survey results indicated public support for these measures, with many respondents suggesting higher fines and stricter penalties for violators. The group’s focus is on combating reckless driver behavior in work zones, with their recommendations slated for review by the governor and general assembly after their final meeting in November, pending legislative approval for some proposals.
