NDOT Provides Update on I-80 Projects, Urges Nebraskans to Drive Safely in Work Zones

Abstract:

Major construction and rehabilitation projects are underway or nearing completion along Nebraska’s Interstate 80 corridor, spanning from Ogallala to Omaha. Initiated in 2024 and 2025, these projects include bridge repairs, pavement reconstruction, lane widening, and interchange modernization aimed at improving safety, capacity, and long-term system performance. Several projects in the Omaha metro area are substantially complete, marking the first implementations of the Metro Area Travel Improvement Study (MTIS), while additional projects in central and western Nebraska are progressing with completion dates extending through 2027. The article also highlights the importance of driver awareness and caution in work zones, noting ongoing crash statistics and the role of distracted driving, as NDOT emphasizes patience and safety to protect both travelers and roadway workers.
