Nearly 3,000 Ticketed for Speeding in I-80 Work Zone

Author/Presenter: Loomis, Brandon
Abstract:

Nearly 3,000 tickets were issued in Salt Lake City’s Interstate 80 construction zone from late March 2008 thru early this month since the Utah Department of Transportation paid $8,000 to $10,000 a month in overtime to the Utah Highway Patrol to catch speeders. This has slowed traffic and reduced accidents. Although the department has cut its enforcement budget as the project winds down, it could boost spending again if problems increase before completion this winter.
