New Barricade-Sign Proves Eye-Catching

Abstract:

The Arkansas Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Russellville District needed a more visible barricade device to improve traffic flow and safety in highway work zones. The district decided to try the direction indicator barricade designed by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). The flexible and lightweight barricade is paired with an eye-catching sign that cues drivers entering work zones to the lane of travel they should use. The sign’s reflective orange-and-white pattern and black directional arrow make it easy for drivers to see and track the appropriate path. The device can be set up in a fraction of the time that it takes to assemble the traditional sawhorse barricade, and it is maintenance-free.
