New Direction Indicator Barricade Improves Motorist and Worker Safety
Abstract:Watertown, South Dakota, sought a more visible device to direct motorists through highway work zones and around obstacles. The Watertown City Street Department decided to try a flexible and lightweight direction indicator barricade designed by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). Attached to the barricade is an eye-catching sign with an arrow that clearly points drivers toward the correct lane to use in highway work zones. The barricade’s orange-and-white bias-striped pattern and black directional arrow make it easy for drivers to see and track the appropriate path.
