New Drivers in Connecticut Learn About the Real People Behind the Orange Cones

Abstract:

Connecticut now requires prospective drivers to complete a free online work zone safety course before obtaining a learner’s permit, as part of the ARTBA-supported Work Zone Safe program. The initiative aims to improve driver awareness by emphasizing the human impact of work zone safety. Since its implementation on January 1, more than 10,000 drivers have enrolled, and Connecticut is the first state to also mandate the course for individuals cited for work zone violations. The program responds to persistently high national work zone crash rates and is being promoted for adoption in other states.
