New Online Work Zone Course Geared to Assist New Kansas Drivers

Abstract:

A new free online course, Kansas Work Zone Safe, has been launched to educate teen and novice drivers on safe practices in highway work zones. Developed in response to the high number of work zone crashes in Kansas—1,705 incidents in 2024 alone—the course covers laws, hazards, and safe driving behaviors. Supported by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and other transportation organizations, the program aims to reduce injuries and fatalities by promoting awareness and responsibility among new drivers. The initiative coincides with National Work Zone Awareness Week and includes a scholarship incentive for participants.
