New Technology Trial Reduces Delays for Drivers And Cuts Cost of Roadworks

Abstract:

A National Highways competition has successfully trialed innovative technologies aimed at reducing roadwork disruptions and costs. Alchera Technologies developed an AI-powered system that optimized work schedules using traffic flow predictions, saving £45,000 and reducing road closures during a pilot on the M6. Two other finalists included Robok, which enhanced hazard detection via video analytics, and WordNerds, which extracted actionable insights from public feedback to improve roadwork management. Together, these solutions demonstrate the potential to save millions in costs and significantly enhance the road user experience across England’s motorways and A-roads.
