Older Drivers Say … Stop Signs of Confusion

In 1990, eight retired employees of the Illinois Department of Transportation took a break from retirement activity to help IDOT conduct its Older Driver Study of Traffic Control Devices. Those retirees, who had traffic-engineering experience, and 190 volunteers over age 55 hit the road with a mission: Find the problems old drivers have in using the highways and suggest improvements.
