Pointed in the Right Direction
Abstract:Highway work zones are often confusing to drivers, with traffic flowing in new and unfamiliar patterns. The Alabama Department of Transportation (DOT) sought a more effective way to direct drivers through the State’s temporary work zones. To keep traffic moving safely and effectively, the Alabama DOT decided to try the new direction indicator barricade, which had been developed under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). The device not only provides guidance on lane changes and closings, but is easy to install and uses a minimum amount of space.
