Proceed with Caution: I-81 Section over Christiansburg Mountain Headed for 2.5 Years of Work

The work to expand the Christiansburg Mountain pass on Interstate 81 in Southwest Virginia from two to three lanes is underway. This section of highway has been a heavily travelled area. To keep traffic moving safely is going to a challenge. Brad Sant of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association is quoted regarding crash rates are higher in work zones due to road conditions. But he also said, as long as work zones are set up correctly and motorists do their part, work zones can be as safe as non-work zones.
