Abstract:

Section 358 answers the following three questions.
1) Six methods were identified for increasing safety at highway construction sites. What are the FHWA plans for implementing these methods’
A) Those methods we are already pursuing or completed action on are: conduct work zone safety conferences, establish a work zone safety information clearinghouse, conduct a national work zone safety promotional campaign, and develop work zone training programs.
2) What is the status of the 4 work zone safety improvement methods the FHWA is currently pursuing’
A) Each method discussed in question 1 is broken down and gives the steps taken for action.
3) What does the study regarding radio and microwave technology for a motor vehicle safety warning system require’
A) The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration must conduct a study to develop and evaluate radio and microwave technology for a motor vehicle safety warning system. The warning system may help with advanced warning of temporary obstructions in a highway, poor visibility and highway surface conditions caused by adverse weather, and movement of emergency vehicles.
