ReConnect Rondo’s Short Film Shows Widespread Impact of Highway Construction

Author/Presenter: Kim, Soyoung
Abstract:

The short film Displaced: Reimagining Our Nation’s Infrastructure explores the profound impact of highway construction on communities across the United States. Featuring firsthand accounts from residents, the film highlights how projects like Interstate 94 through St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood displaced families, destroyed businesses, and left lasting scars. With over one million people displaced by the Highway Act of 1956—disproportionately affecting people of color and low-income populations—the film sheds light on historical injustices while advocating for reconnection and economic restoration. Led by ReConnect Rondo, this project aims to inspire affected communities to rebuild and reclaim a sense of belonging.
