Safety Barrier Design’s First Test Is Virtual

Using a “high-performance” computer and simulation software, a University of Florida research team tested several barrier designs before devising one that met the state’s criteria for construction on slower-speed roads. The engineers saved the state approximately $100,000 by not wrecking vehicles in repeated field tests.
