Should DOT Cameras Record Video?: Prosecutors Say Doing So Could Help Law Enforcement
Abstract:Prosecutors in Jacksonville, Florida are urging Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin recording live images with cameras on Jacksonville highways. They thought the recordings could make it much easier for law enforcement to determine who was at fault in cases involving motorists. However, Florida DOT estimates recording costs to be around $3 million and storage is also an issue. Since there have been very few requests for videos in the past, Florida DOT will not begin recording live images anytime soon, but to continue keeping the cameras for traffic management purposes.
