Summary of SHRP Research and Economic Benefits of Work Zone Safety
Author/Presenter: Epps, Jon A.; Ardila-Coulson, MariaAbstract:
In 1995, a project was initiated to assess the costs versus benefits of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). Information was collected from State and local highway agencies on their experiences with the SHRP products, and this information was used as the basis for an economic analysis of the costs and benefits of the program and its products. This report summarizes the preliminary findings of an economic analysis conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute. It also describes the work zone safety technologies developed under SHRP and the experiences of highway agencies that have used them. In addition, it summarizes the objectives of the research conducted under SHRP on work zone safety, and outlines the work conducted by the Federal Highway Administration to refine the products and encourage their adoption.
