Technical Corner: Benefits of Temporary Rumble Strips in TTC Situations

Author/Presenter: Arva, Erin
Abstract:

To make it as safe as possible for those working on and alongside a road, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has tried portable temporary rumble strips in their maintenance operations.     This article describes a pilot program conducted in Pennsylvania during the late 2011 and early 2012 construction seasons.   The benefits of using portable temporary rumble strips are discussed.   It is suggested that the portables could be used in temporary traffic control situations for incident management as well.
