Author/Presenter: Ullman, Gerald L.; Schrock, Steven D.; Brewer, Marcus A.; Sankar, Param; Bryden, James E.; Corkran, Mike; Hubbs, CWAbstract:
This report presents the summary of work conducted during Phase I of NCHRP Project 3-80, Traffic Enforcement Strategies for Work Zones. The objective of this project is to develop guidelines for safe and effective deployment of traffic enforcement strategies in work zones on high-speed roadways (those with speed limits of 45 mph or greater). Phase I activities were designed to provide a clear understanding of the national state-of-the-practice on this topic, to determine existing knowledge gaps and research needs, and to develop a clear research plan to meet those needs. The conclusions of the research will be used to develop a comprehensive guideline document that can be used by design, construction, maintenance, and traffic engineers to incorporate traffic law enforcement in work zones.
