Troopers Target Move Over Violators in ODOT Work Zone
Abstract:Ohio’s Move Over law plays a critical role in protecting roadside and work zone personnel, yet recent enforcement and crash data highlight ongoing safety concerns. Since January 2025, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) employees, vehicles, and equipment have been struck 88 times, already surpassing the total for all of 2024. In a recent joint enforcement effort, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and Ohio Department of Transportation cited 21 motorists for Move Over violations during a two-hour work zone operation in Lorain County. From 2020–2024, more than 30,000 work zone citations were issued statewide, most for speeding. In 2025 alone, Ohio has recorded over 3,200 work zone crashes, including 17 fatalities. OSHP and ODOT continue to partner on enforcement and public awareness to emphasize the importance of moving over or slowing down to protect lives in work zones.
