TxDOT Turns Two Trucks Into Key Messaging Tools

Abstract:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) creatively promoted work zone safety and anti-littering initiatives by transforming two work trucks into eye-catching parade floats for the 2024 Houston Art Car Parade. Building on the success of their 2023 entry, TxDOT’s team, led by traffic engineer James Keener, designed two themed vehicles: “Game of Cones-Construction is Coming” and “Found on Road-Don’t Mess with Texas.” These floats, decorated with safety equipment and litter debris, effectively engaged the 350,000 parade-goers, emphasizing the importance of work zone vigilance and road cleanliness. The parade allowed TxDOT to reach thousands with their safety messages, garnering significant public interest and positive feedback.
