U.S. Transportation Secretary & Safety Leaders Kick off National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week with Special Event on Washington, D.C., National Mall: Michigan Student to Discuss Accident that Killed His Father

Abstract:

Public and private safety leaders will come together for a special ceremony, April 9, 2001 during National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week. The event will commemorate and draw attention to those killed in roadway construction zones and include a display of 868 highway cones, each draped with a black ribbon and representing highway construction workers and motorists killed during 1999. American Road & Transportation Builder Association (ARTBA) Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship recipient winner Daniel Doyle will speak at the event. The ARTBA scholarship program provides college financial assistance to the children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled on the job. Doyle’s father was an employee of the Michigan Department of Transportation when he was killed in August 1997
