VDOT Digs Into Potholes on Virginia Roads

Abstract:

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is intensifying efforts to identify and repair potholes as winter weather conditions increase roadway deterioration. Freeze-thaw cycles, moisture infiltration, and traffic loads contribute to pothole formation, prompting seasonal maintenance responses. VDOT encourages motorists to report potholes through its Customer Service Center and to exercise caution by giving crews space to work. Reported issues are prioritized based on severity, traffic impact, and location, with temporary repairs conducted during colder months and permanent fixes scheduled when weather conditions allow.
