What’s That Flash Near the Roadside Port-A-Potty? A Speed Camera

Author/Presenter: Shaver, Katherine
Abstract:

A new speed camera attached to an SUV behind a portable toilet on Interstate 270 in Maryland caused some controversy. Some motorists thought that was sneaky and it would be more effective to place the camera where people could see since the objective is to get people to slow down and be safe, rather than as a moneymaker. Highway officials said the camera operators need a safe bathroom nearby and the setup has nothing to do with camouflage or trickery. Highway signs are used to warn of speed-camera enforcement in the area.
