Wheelchair Trip Hits Roadblock

Author/Presenter: Kreiberg, Emily
Abstract:

A trip to the library leaves a blind wheelchair bound man feeling frustrated and helpless. Robert Detcher, a 67-year-old stroke survivor, legally blind and physically disabled, found all his routes to the downtown library blocked off by construction zones. There were no wheelchair-accessible ramps. Spokesperson Bev Matthiessen for the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities saaid that these issues are commonplace and Alberta is far behind on issues involving disabilities.
