Work Zone Accident Factors
Abstract:Five factors that contribute to work zone traffic accidents are identified. They are: variations in speed, sharper curves, higher traffic volumes in a reduced number of lanes, reduction in roadway width, and driver distractions. These accidents can be reduced by carefully planned traffic control following MUTCD guidelines. Studies have also shown that accident rates are highest between 1:00 and 3:00 AM.
