Work Zone Activity Data (WZAD) – Needs and Opportunities
Author/Presenter: Ullman, Jerry; Finley, MelisaAbstract:
This document describes the methodology used and information gathered from seven virtual and in-person forums conducted in April 2018. These forums were conducted to introduce stakeholders to the Federal Highway Administration’s Work Zone Data Initiative and to solicit open discussion on Work Zone Activity Data (WZAD) needs, challenges, and opportunities. Specifically, the document includes a compilation of current practices and an assessment of user needs for a significant number of existing and potential uses of WZAD. The report provides a comprehensive look into the various ways that different entities could use WZAD for a large number of purposes. A set of use cases of WZAD developed for this effort included examples across the entire life cycle of a work zone, as well as WZAD data sharing opportunities that do or could occur within an agency and across agencies.
