Abstract:

This interim guide is presented as a supplement to the report prepared by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials – the Associated General Contractors of America – American Road and Transportation Builders Association (AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA) Joint Cooperative Committee’s Task Force No. 13 entitled A Guide to Standardized highway Rail Hardware”. This report was prepared by the Task Force subcommittee (3) on Work Zone Barriers and Barricades in an effort to improve standardization of details on connections used in cooperation with temporary concrete median barriers. The barrier connections included are the anchored pin and rebar, anchored pin and wire rope, bottom T-lock, vertical I-beam, flaring tongue and groove with side plates, and hinge plate. Drawings of these connections along with specified notes and materials are included for the New Jersey shape. The F-shape barrier design and a drawing showing dimensions are also included, but connection details for the F-shape have not been included.
