Work Zone Fatalities Are up

Abstract:

This article reports a 29 percent increase in work zone fatalities in the two years between 1992 and 1994. It cites two problems responsible for this increase: failure to remove or cover work zone signs when they are no longer applicable and insufficient training, especially for flaggers. Training is also needed to familiarize workers with new tools and procedures introduced in Part VI of the MUTCD and by LTAP Centers. Local LTAP centers can provide assistance with training courses.
