Work Zone Fatalities Drop According to Latest Figures
Abstract:The number of fatalities in construction and maintenance zones across the U.S. dropped between 2002 and 2003, according figures recently released by the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse that show the figure fell from 1,186 to 1,028. Tony Kane, AASHTO Director of Engineering and Technical Services, said use of intelligent transportation system, AASHTO’s efforts on the national work zone awareness week, and the priority focus that state DOT’s have placed on work zone crash reductions have all contributed to the decline.
