Work Zone on Route 53 Uses Different Traffic Control
Abstract:A pilot car is being used on Route 53 to direct one-lane traffic during work to resurface and pave shoulders. Although the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has used it on many projects before with great success, this is the first time they use it in this area. This is a relatively long work zone. The pilot car method is considered to be more cost effective than moving temporary signals on a daily basis and also better at keeping travel speeds down in the work zone because the pilot car will lead traffic.
