Work Zone Safety Good Practices Report

Abstract:

This report provides a summary of some of the successful work zone safety practices being used throughout the U.S. The information contained within was compiled mainly from completed questionnaires on work zone safety practices returned by the States. The questionnaire was sent out in May 1996. The responses indicate that many innovations are being implemented in State work zone safety programs, and the information can provide ideas to agencies interested in improvements for their work zone safety procedures. Work zone safety practices covered include: development and implementation of Traffic Control Plans (TCP); contracting procedures; training and certification; speed control; traffic control devices; public outreach; and work zone evaluation.
