Wyoming Highway Mountain Pass Reopens 3 Weeks After Landslide
Author/Presenter: Wulfeck, AndrewAbstract:
Nearly three weeks after a major landslide caused the collapse of State Highway 22 through the Teton Pass, reconnecting Wyoming and southeast Idaho, the road has reopened due to round-the-clock work by transportation officials. The landslide, triggered by heavy rain and rapid snowmelt, forced a lengthy 85-mile detour, disrupting the lives of commuters, many of whom live in Idaho’s Teton Valley. A temporary roadway, meeting federal safety standards but with speed and weight restrictions, is now in place. The Wyoming Department of Transportation continues efforts for a permanent fix, supported by $6 million in federal emergency funding.
