Application of types of temporary/removable pavement marking material and special linestriping material
New York uses paint and removable tape, sometimes supplemented with temporary raised markers. NYDOT is experimenting with the 3M wet-reflective tape for wet-weather performance.
The state has experienced a problem in getting rid of unwanted markings when they are no longer needed. In some cases it requires milling off enough pavement to get rid of the old markings because grinding or covering them still leaves a surface that reflects the sun or headlights differently than surrounding bare pavement.
