Center lane closure

Arkansas DOT uses center lane closures as a last resort when volumes do not allow two lanes to be closed on a six-lane freeway. One project required a center lane closure, using MUTCD TA-38 for an overlay on a six-lane interstate with about 80,000 ADT. Arkansas has few six-lane freeways with 10 or 12 foot left shoulders that would allow paving an additional lane.
