Changing light bulbs on overhead signs
NYDOT closes the lane directly under the work and the adjacent lane if there is a possibility that the lift apparatus could swing over the adjacent lane. This applies to bridge inspection and any overhead work except for permanent VMS units, which are enclosed and can be serviced from inside. They try to avoid closing the adjacent lane by strategically positioning the lift truck or using a spotter to watch for trucks or other high vehicles that could hit the bucket or platform.
