Construction Zone Traffic Control Program

The Alabama DOT and Alabama Department of Public Safety participate in a traffic safety program called the Construction Zone Traffic Control Program. This program allows troopers to work extra-duty hours enforcing traffic laws in construction zones throughout the state for the safety and protection of the Alabama Department of Transportation and other construction zone workers. Under this program, the Alabama DOT determines the need for traffic enforcement and speed control in selected major construction work areas. The Department of Public Safety then allocates troopers in marked patrol cars to be stationed at or near the specified construction sites to monitor traffic. The troopers assigned to the detail focus on aggressive enforcement of speed limit and other traffic laws in and around the construction work zones. They are also available to assist motorists and provide other services as necessary.
