Litter and debris removal procedure

Arkansas DOT addresses the litter problem along state highways in a variety of ways. Contract mowing crews remove litter from approximately one-third of the rights-of-way as part of mowing contract specifications. Some of the individual counties allow prisoners to reduce time in jail by performing public service like picking up litter. There are three organizations, including Pathfinder, that agree to pick up litter for a price per hour. All other litter removal is completed by state employees.
