Measuring work zone performance
Montana, as stated in its Work Zone Safety and Mobility draft, plans to measure work zone performance based on the following criteria:
-Reduce work zone crashes and fatalities directly attributable to highway construction or maintenance operations, measured through work zone crash analysis.
-Travel time through a work zone may be 15 minutes longer than without a work zone, for a proportion of significant projects.
-Travel time delay goals will be set for significant projects and corridor construction.
-Measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities of personnel responsible for achieving work zone safety and mobility. This will be measured by reviewing either training records or certification requirements of individuals against the department’s training program and certification requirements.
-Minimize stakeholder impacts through various processes measured by surveys, interviews, and media coverage during and post construction.
-Design and implement more uniform work zone traffic control measured by field reviews.
