Photo enforcement in work zones
Oregon Department of Transportation was provided the ability to use photo radar in a state highway work zone during the Oregon 2007 Legislative Session. As part of this authority the Oregon DOT may request a law enforcement agency or Oregon State Police who are already authorized to operate photo radar to operate photo radar on a state highway construction work zone as long as at least one highway worker is present and the project is not on an interstate highway. The Oregon DOT has begun a demonstration and research project using an Oregon DOT Preservation Project on Oregon Highway 30 @ Yeon Street. The project is within the City of Portland jurisdiction. The Oregon Department of Transportation has requested the City of Portland, Police Bureau to operate photo radar within this work zone. The majority of the preservation project work will begin in approximately May 2009. Once data of traffic speeds and citations are captured through the project completion and analyzed a research report will be developed. Additional locations for photo radar in work zones within Oregon have yet to be identified.
