Use of orange fluorescent sheeting on STOP/SLOW paddles
Virginia DOT has required the use of fluorescent orange prismatic lens sheeting for the SLOW side of the paddle, and high-intensity (encapsulated lens) sheeting for the STOP side of the paddle, since 1996. They also require the use of 24″ STOP/SLOW paddles for increased visibility of the flagging operation. When flashing white lights are used, the size of the paddle may be reduced to 18″.
