Work zone impact thresholds

Virginia DOT does not use performance specs. For now, hours of operation are specified in the contract based on traffic volumes and available lanes. Nearly all lane closures on limited-access highways in urban areas occur at night. A committee has been recently formed to further define allowable work hours, focusing on expending the traditional times to close travel lanes while minimizing impacts to motorists as much as possible.
