2003 Transportation Fair: Crash Course for Safer Streets

Author/Presenter: Keith, Kevin
Abstract:

Nationwide, more than 42,000 people are killed and more than 3 million more are injured in traffic crashes every year. MoDOT launched a new safety campaign this year, “The Difference is You. Drive Smart.” Missouri is taking first steps in developing a comprehensive highway safety plan using the Integrated Safety Management System process. The first step will be to produce a statewide vision and goal – specific reductions in fatal and severe injury crashes. Missouri also plans to identify key crash reduction emphasis areas through extensive data analysis and define strategies that can achieve the goal of reducing fatalities and serious injury crashes.
