Colorado to Begin Using Photo Radar Cameras on Highways
Author/Presenter: Finley, BruceAbstract:
The Colorado Department of Transportation is set to implement photo radar speed cameras on highways starting in April as part of an effort to reduce crashes and fatalities. Initially deployed in construction zones, the program will expand to other high-risk areas based on crash and speeding data. Despite a decline in statewide crashes and fatalities, officials believe automated enforcement will further enhance road safety. The initiative follows recent legislative changes allowing broader use of speed cameras. Drivers caught speeding will first receive warnings before facing fines. The effort aligns with Colorado’s broader traffic safety measures, aiming to lower statewide traffic fatalities below 600 in 2025.
