Connected Work Zone Research Wins Grant

Abstract:

Ver-Mac and the ARTBA Foundation have partnered to study the safety benefits of connected work zone technology, supported by a grant from the Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI). The research will deploy sensors in workers’ vests that communicate in real time with traffic control devices and motorists to improve awareness and reduce risks. Data on collisions and near-miss incidents will be analyzed and compared with non-connected sites to evaluate effectiveness. The study is set to begin in Washington State in June, with additional sites to follow.
