Crash Typifies Work-Zone Hazards

Over the past 30 years, numerous highway workers, flaggers, inspectors and vehicle operators have been killed in work zones, and recent statistics don’t show any improvement. Peter Coughlin, director of the department’s Local Road Center, said most work-zone accidents occur because of driver inattention and speeding. “Three top things are visibility, visibility, visibility,” Coughlin said. “Not enough signs, not enough flags, not good.”
