CTDOT Using Automated Flagging Devices in Construction Zones
Author/Presenter: Levy, JasonAbstract:
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has deployed automated flagger assistance devices in construction zones to enhance worker safety. Replacing traditional roadside flaggers, the devices use traffic lights and a safety bar, operated remotely by crew members, to direct traffic. Equipped with 360-degree cameras, they also record accidents and unsafe driving behaviors. CTDOT officials say the technology reduces risks to roadway workers by keeping them out of direct traffic while improving driver compliance in increasingly distracted driving conditions.
