DelDOT Announces New Speed Camera in Work Zone on SR 1
Author/Presenter: Peters, SophiaAbstract:
The Delaware Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Delaware State Police, is implementing a new Electronic Speed Safety Program (ESSP) camera in the southbound State Route 1 work zone near Lewes. The system becomes active on October 21 with a 21-day warning period before fines begin on November 11. First offenses carry a $20 base fee plus additional charges per mile over the 50 mph work zone speed limit, with doubled penalties under Delaware’s work zone fine structure. While fines increase for repeat violations, no license points will be assessed. DelDOT officials emphasize that the measure aims to reduce crashes, slow speeding, and enhance worker safety throughout the multi-year construction project.
