Distracted Driving: 85 People Killed in Work Zones in Five Years
Author/Presenter: Wheatley, Michaela MarxAbstract:
In the past five years, 85 people, including four ODOT workers, were killed and 1,677 people were injured in Oklahoma work zones. Work zone crashes, particularly those caused by distracted driving, speeding, or not keeping enough distance, are a serious issue in Oklahoma. On May 1, a memorial event is planned honoring the lives of those killed in recent work zone crashes. 85 metal ribbons will be placed in a median along southbound I-235 at N. 36th St. to remind motorists the importance of paying attention.
